Anise Seed Essential Oil
Anise is an important annual spice and medicinal plant belonging to the Apiaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. The essential oil of this plant contains natural components with aroma similar to Fennel and Licorice plants [1].
Anise Seed essential oil is steam distilled from the seeds of the white-flowering Pimpinella anisum plant. Pimpinella anisum contains 1.5-5.0% essential oil with trans-Anethole, a phenylpropanoid, as the major component. The essential oil of Anise Seeds may contain Estragol, Anisaldehyde, γ-Himachalene, and cis-Anethole, which is the phenolic ether [2].
Anise Seed essential oil is known to be an effective carminative. It helps to calm the digestive system. It has antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory activities; It can help reduce muscle spasms. In addition, it also has expectorant, diuretic, antiseptic effects [1-3].

To apply to the skin, do not use undiluted essential oils on your skin. For topical applications a 2,4% or less dilution is recommended [4].
