Immortelle Essential Oil
Helichrysum italicum, which usually grows wild in rocky environments, is a plant with yellow flowers that appear living even after they have collected and dried. Therefore, the name of this plant was named “Immortelle” meaning “everlasting” [1, 2].
Immortelle essential oil is steam distilled from the flowering yellow tops of the plant. If the flowers are not freshly distilled they ferment after 24 hours. The chemical composition of Immortelle essential oil varies according to its geographical provenance. Depending on its different chemotypes, essential oil can be rich in nerol, curcumene and selinene components [3].
Although there is great diversity among the chemical compositions, Immortelle essential oil has strong antimicrobial and antifungal activity. It is effective against bacteria and fungi that can cause skin irritations and infections. Helichrysum italicum is a powerful anti-haematoma. It has mostly been used as an infusion to treat respiratory tract infections such as asthma and chronic. It can help relieve pain throughout the body [1, 2, 4].
