St. John’s Wort Oil
St. John’s Wort, Hypericum perforatum, also known as Binbirdelik Otu, Yara Otu, Kanotu, is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows in Turkey widely. The flowers bloom between May and September. [1].
St. John’s wort is one of the most important medicinal plants. The value of Hypericum plants has been mainly attributed to the phytochemicals, namely naphthodianthrones, acylphloroglucinol derivatives, flavonoids, alkanes, tannins, xanthones and essential oils they possess. Hypericum perforatum extracts have antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal, antimicrobial, anticonvulsant, cytotoxic and wound healing activities. For many years, extracts have been used in the treatment of depressive disorders. They have quite beneficial effects for preventing and treating many serious diseases such as cancer [2-3].
